Can Akril be used as a whiteboard?

No, Akril is not recommended as a whiteboard. Whiteboard marker maybe removed in some instances but not all. If the whiteboard marker or permanent marker is used metholated spirits will remove the ink from Akril without harming Akril.

Can Akril be used behind cooktops?

Akril can be used in any vertical situation where coming into contact with direct heat isn’t a consideration. Heat sources greater than 100° Celsius can cause distortion and while Akril has a higher heat resistance than most polymers, it is generally not recommended for applications directly behind cooktops.

How is Akril environmentally friendly?

Akril requires much less energy to manufacture than equivalent glass product. Akril has also been awarded a green star rating by The Good Environmental Choice of Australia. Akril can be recycled under recyclable plastic number 7.

What happens when Akril is scratched?

Most surface scratches can simply be polished out of the gloss Akril range. Deeper scratches can be sanded back and then cut and polished to return the surface to its original lustre and finish. Are there any cleaning products I should avoid?

Yes, there are some chemicals found in cleaning products that may affect Akril. These include - Acetone, Ethyl acetate, Amyl alcohol, Amyl acetate, Benzene/toluene/xylene, Butyl alcohol, Cellusolve, Chloroform, Cresols/phenols, Chlorinated solvents/ halogenated solvents, Methyl alcohol, Sulphuric acid (10%)/ dilute acids, MEK methyl ethyl ketone (PVC pipe glue).

Can Akril be used outside?

While Akril has a 10-year UV warranty, it is not recommended for exterior applications in which it is directly exposed to the weather. It is suitable for covered and protected areas such as undercover patios, barbeque’s and so on.

Are there any special tools or skills required when working with Akril on site?

No. Akril is lightweight, durable and can be cut, shaped and polished using the tools normally found on site without chipping, splintering or cracking. Following a simple process can mean variations to design can be easily accommodated most of the time with standard techniques and skills. Are special adhesives required?

The same neutral-cure adhesive used on mirrors and glass can be used on Akril. Aesthetic silicone is not recommended as it is very likely to bleed through and damage the finished panel.

What colours and finishes are available?

There are 10 designer colours in the Akril range – from the bold and striking though to the quieter, neutral colours. These colours are available in both the lustrous Akril gloss range and the more muted Akril frost matt range.

Is Akril cost effective when compared with painted glass?

About 40% more cost effective in price – but more so in terms of reduced lead times, ready availability and ease of use which means there is more project control on site than with a glass alternative.

Where can I find Akril?

Akril is available off the shelf, nationally through authorised distributors in all states. Generally, you’ll find the full range available unless the distributor is out of stock.

What sizes and thicknesses are available?

Yes, there’s a 10-year UV warranty on Akril and if a project requires a further structural warranty, it can be offered with specific reference to the project and the product application.

Will abrasives scratch Akril?

Yes, if applied vigorously. A car cutting polish will easily restore Akril’s original gloss surface.
